Medicaid eligibility

The New York State Department of Health has raised the income eligibility levels for Medicaid coverage in 2023. This significant increase reflects the state’s commitment to expanding access to healthcare for low-income individuals and families. The new Medicaid income eligibility levels are set at 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), a substantial increase from the previous year.

Individuals in New York can now qualify for Medicaid coverage if they earn up to $1,677 per month or $20,121 per year. In addition, married couples can earn up to $2,268 per month or $27,214 per year and still qualify for Medicaid coverage. These new income eligibility levels are a significant increase compared to 2022, when the monthly income limit for an individual was $934, and a married couple with both spouses applying for Medicaid could have only $1,367 in net income per month.
